The November meeting of the 4-H Paws N Pals Club was held on November 12, 2009 at the Washington Street Library at 6:00 P.M. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Alicia, the 4-H Pledge was led by Caldwell. The roll was taken by Caldwell. 12 members, 2 leaders, and 5 parents, a total of 19 people attended the meeting. The minutes were not read. In correspondence, there was a ‘Thank-You’ note from Safe Haven animal shelter, thanking us for our dog food donations. There were no Officer Reports. The fundraising committee report was giving by Kim. The dog and cat food drive committee report was given by Caldwell. The Christmas party committee report was given by Kim. In unfinished business, there was a report given by Alicia on the Record Book Workshop that was held before the meeting. There was also a report given on the AKC Dog Show by Bryan. Under new business motions there was a motion made by Atticus to attend and walk in the Country Club Mall Santa Parade. It was seconded by Bryan. The motion passed. There was a motion made by Kaufman to attend and walk in the Frostburg Christmas Parade. It was seconded by Atticus. The motion passed. There was a motion made by Matt that any dogs attending the Frostburg Christmas Parade must have Obedience training. It was seconded by Brian. The motion passed. There was a motion made by Kaufman to bring candy to the Frostburg Christmas Parade to hand out to the spectators. It was seconded by Atticus. The motion passed. There was a motion made by Alicia to take $150.00 from the club’s funds for the Christmas Party. It was seconded by Caldwell. The motion passed. In other new business, The Country Club Mall Santa Parade is to be held on November 18 at 6:00 P.M. The Frostburg Christmas Parade is top be held on December 5 at 10:30 A.M. The December meeting was announced. And the Dog Obedience, Rally-O, and Junior Showmanship classes were announced. There were no Announcements. There was a motion to adjourn the meeting. It was seconded by Kaufman. The motion passed. The program was a 5 minute Dog Talk by Jenna on Siberian Huskies and Beagles. Refreshments were provided by the Jackson Family.

The October meeting of the 4-H Paws N Pals Club was held on October 22, 2009 at the Washington Street Library at 6:20 PM. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Alicia, the 4-H Pledge was led by Caldwell, and the roll was taken by Caldwell. 10 members, 2 leaders, 4 guests, and 1 parent, a total of 17 people attended the meeting. The minutes were approved as read. There was no correspondence. The Treasurer’s report was given by Kim; the Historian’s report was given by Kaufman, and there was no Reporter’s report. The Leader’s report was given by Kim; she gave a report on the UPV Kennel Club meeting. Committee Reports: The Fundraising committee report was given by Kim, and there was a motion to start our own Rally-O Class and Junior Showmanship Class, which passed. It was announced that the Cumberland Rotary gave the club a $500 grant to further our obedience classes and help members work towards their Canine Good Citizen and Therapy Dog Certification. Obedience Classes will be announced soon. The Dog & Cat Food Drive committee report was given by Caldwell. He made a motion for the Club to donate $200.00 to the cause for the purchase of dog and cat food and was seconded by Alicia. The Halloween Party committee report was given by Kaufman. She made a motion to use $150.00 of the club’s fund as the party fund which was seconded by Caldwell. Unfinished Business: Kim gave a report on the Maryland dog QuizBowl Competition. The Intermediate Team came in 5th and the Junior team came in 3rd. Individual results included Sarah T. in 6th place for Intermediates, Kaufman B. in 6th place for Juniors, and Alicia J. in 7th place for Juniors. Other participants from the 4-H Paws N Pals Club included Caldwell B. and Lydia D.  New Business Motions: Kaufman made a motion to take $15-20.00 from the club’s fund to buy supplies for scrapbooking, which was seconded by Atticus. Atticus then made a motion to take $115.00 from the club’s fund to buy banners and ribbons for the club, which was seconded by Caldwell. Other New Business: The Allegany County Record-Book Workshop is to be held at 6:30 PM on November 9th at the Allegany County Fairgrounds. The November and the December meeting have been rescheduled due to Thanksgiving and Christmas. The November meeting will be held on Thursday, November 12 from 6:00 to 7:30 PM. There will be a Record Workbook Session from 5:00 to 6:00 on November 12th before the monthly meeting at the Washington Street Library. The December meeting will be held Thursday, December 17th from 6:00 to 7:30 PM. The Christmas Party committee meeting will start in November. There were no announcements. Kaufman then made the movement to adjourn the meeting and Atticus seconded it. The program was a movie presentation on dog safety.

The September meeting of the 4-H Paws N Pals Club was held on Thursday, September 24, 2009, at the Washington Street Library at 6:15 PM. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Sarah T., and the 4-H Pledge was led by Jenna P. The roll was taken by Atticus S., 8 members, 1 leader, 7 parents, and one guest speaker for a total of 18 attendees. There was no correspondence, Treasurer’s report, or leader’s report. Jenna P. gave a reporter’s report on the club picnic and the Dog and Cat Food Drive. There was a publicity report by Jenna P. Sarah T gave a Dog Quiz Bowl report and a motion to pay for food and travel expenses to the upcoming Dog Quiz Bowl Tournament was passed. Alicia J. gave a report on the Dog Splash in Frostburg. Announcements were made about the Dog Show sign up and the Bedford Fall Foliage Festival. There was a motion to adjourn the meeting by Alicia J. The program was a presentation by Diane Cares from the Ark of Hope shelter about animal rescue in Allegany County.

The August meeting of the 4-H Paws N Pals club was held on August 28, 2009 at the Washington Street Library at 6:15 P.M. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Darrah, and the 4-H Pledge was led by Jenna. The roll was taken by Caldwell, 6 members, 2 leaders, 2 parents, and 6 guests, a total of 16 people attended the meeting. There was no correspondence. The Treasurer’s report was given Kim, the Reporter’s report by Jenna, and the Leader’s report by Kim. Committee Reports: The report for the fundraising committee was given by Kim. The dog food drive committee report was given by Caldwell; there was a motion to spend $25-35 on posters for the drive which passed. There was also a motion to accept cash donations along with the other donations at the drive which passed. The end of summer picnic committee report was given by Jenna; there was a motion to use Potomac Farms ice cream which passed. There was also a motion to purchase chicken at the picnic which passed. Unfinished Business: Alicia gave a report on the Rally-O class, Caldwell gave a report on the TTouch demo, and Alicia gave a report on the QuizBowl meetings. There were no New Business Motions. Announcements: National 4-H Week is October 4-10, the Children’s International Photography Contest, and the carwash on the upcoming Saturday (which was canceled). There was a motion to adjourn the meeting by Caldwell which passed. Program: Debbie Gary-Taskey of BeeHaven Canine Coaching gave a presentation on pet first-aid. There were no refreshments.

The July meeting of the 4-H Paws N Pals Club was held on July 23 at the Washington Street Library at 6:00 P.M. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Matt, and the 4-H Pledge by Kaufman. The roll call was taken by Caldwell, 17 members, 8 parents, and 9 visitors, making a total of 34 people, attended the meeting. The minutes of the last meeting were approved as read, and there was no correspondence. The Treasurer’s report was given by Kendra, the Reporter’s report by Jenna, and the Historian’s report by Kaufman. Kim Butler gave a report on the UPV Kennel Club meeting, and informed the club about September being ‘Responsible Dog Owner’s Month’. Committee Reports: The Fundraising Committee report was given by Kendra, the Publicity Committee report by Jenna, the Fair Committee report by Jenna, the End of Summer Picnic Committee report by Katie, the 4-H Exchange Committee report by Kim, and the Uniform Committee report by Kaufman. There was a motion by Katie for the Uniform Committee to buy t-shirts for the club, the motion passed. There was a second motion for the Uniform Committee to put the club logo on the t-shirts, the motion passed. There was a third motion for the Uniform Committee to raise the price of the t-shirts $1, from $6.50 to $7.50 if families wanted to purchase additional t-shirts, the motion passed. Unfinished Business: Kaufman gave a report on the ‘K9 Good Manners Class’, Kendra gave a report on the fair, Kaufman gave a report on the Dog QuizBowl Class, Katie gave a report on the Visual Demonstration contest, and Jenna gave a report on the record book workshop.

New Business Motions: Kaufman made a motion to purchase office supplies for $60.00, seconded by Jenna. Matt made a motion to purchase checks for $15-20.00, seconded by Kendra. Caldwell made a motion to move $25.00 into a petty cash fund to use for incidentals between monthly meetings, seconded by Kaufman. Other New Business: Kim gave a report on Upcoming Events in July which included the Dog Retreat, the Dog QuizBowl Practices, and the AKC Dog Show. Kim also announced that July was the last month to pay the $20.00 club due and save $4.00. Kim also announced she was giving out invoices for the people who owed money to the club. There was discussion about starting a dog food donations committee and setting up dog food drives around the general area. There was then a motion to start a dog food donations committee, which passed. Jenna, Atticus, Kaufman, Matt, Murphy, Alica, Alex, Lydia, Caldwell, and Kendra all signed to start and be members of the committee.

Announcements: Kim reminded everyone about the first 4-H ‘Firing Fanatics’ club meeting on Tuesday, July 28 at 6:00, and the ‘Firing Fanatics’ pork BBQ fundraiser which is on August 22. There was a motion to adjourn the meeting, which passed. Program: Kendra gave a 5 (3) minute dog talk on the Golden Retriever. Jenn Merritt then gave a talk on what it was like to be a professional dog trainer, a TTouch demonstration. Refreshments were provided by the Spies family.

The June meeting of the 4-H Paws N Pals Club was held on Thursday, June 25, 2009 at the Washington Street Library at 6:00 PM. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Caldwell B. and the 4-H Pledge was led by Kaufman B.. The roll call was taken by Caldwell B.. 15 members, 4 leaders, 5 parents, and 2 guests, making a total of 26 people, attended the meeting. The minutes were approved as read, and there was no correspondence. The Treasurer’s report was read by Kendra H., the Reporter’s report was given by Jenna P., and the Historian’s report was given by Katie H.. Kim B. gave a report on the UPV Kennel Club meeting. A motion was made by Kendra H. for the club to make the Frostburg Dog Park project a community service project for the club. It was seconded by Kaufman B.. Caldwell B. made a motion to add Responsible Dog Owner’s Day in Bedford to our calendar. It was seconded by Matt P.. Kim B. reported that Dog Quiz Bowl practice will start next week. The club needs to purchase several study books for Dog Quiz Bowl. A motion was made by Matt P. to spend $30.00 in Quiz Bowl study books. It was 2nd by Kaufman B.. A motion was made by Kaufman B. to spend $40.00 for Quiz Bowl practice and pool parties at LaVale Pool. It was seconded by Matt P.. Kendra H. gave the Fundraising Committee report. There was a motion by Kendra H. to pay $30.54 sales tax from Heritage Days which passed. Another Fundraising Committee motion was made by Kendra H. and seconded by Kaufman B. to participate in the Bedford Fall Foliage Festival for $180.00 which passed. There was a report on the Publicity Committee read by Jenna P.. There was a Fair Committee Report given by Karen H.. There was a motion for the Fair Committee to purchase the necessary materials for the club fair booth and banner by Kaufman B. and seconded by Matt P.. There was also an End of Summer Picnic Committee report by Katie H.. In Unfinished Business there was a report on the Dog Obedience Class by Matt P., a report on Heritage Days by Caldwell B., a report on the Biscuit Baking by Katie H., and a report on Officer Training by Jenna P.. In New Business Motions, a motion was made by Kaufman B. to form a 4-H Exchange Committee which Kendra H. seconded. A motion was made by Matt P. to form a Club Uniform Committee which was seconded by Kaufman B.. A motion was made Kendra H. to buy $25.00 in prizes for the dog classes which was seconded by Kaufman B.. In announcements, Kim B. made an announcement on the Firing Fanatics 4-H Club starting next month. The motion was made to adjourn the meeting by Kaufman B. and seconded by Caldwell B.. A 5 minute dog presentation was made by Katlen C. and Sarah Thomas, Katlen’s was on Beagles, and Sarah’s was on Labrador Retrievers. The monthly program was the Visual Demonstration Contest. Participants and awards included Sarah S. with a red ribbon, Katie H. with a blue ribbon, Alicia Jackson with a blue ribbon, Jenna P. with a blue ribbon, Matt P. with a white ribbon, Kaufman B. with a red ribbon and Caldwell B. with a red ribbon. Refreshments were provided by the B. Family.

The Meeting of the 4-H Paws N Pals Club was held on Thursday, May 28 at the Washington Street Library at 6:30 PM. The meeting was called to order by Karen H.. The Pledge of Allegiance and the 4-H Pledge were also led by Karen H.. 24 members, 4 leaders, and 7 parents, making a total of 34 people attended the meeting. There was no correspondence read. The Secretary’s Report of the Organizational meeting was read by Kim B..  The Treasurer’s Report was read by Karen H.. Kim B. gave a report about the Fund Raising Committee. In Unfinished Business, a report was made by Jenna P. on the fund raising production rallies. Caldwell B., made a report on the presentation from Fidos for Freedom. Matt P. gave a report on Kayaks, Tunes and Brews. Lydia D. gave a report on the LaVale Vet Tour. Katie H. gave a report on sewing bandanas for Strut your Mutt. Kaufman B. gave a report on the UPV Kennel Club Meeting. New Business included, Kendra H.’ motion to set the club dues at $2 per meeting or $20 dollars per year if paid in full by the July meeting. This motion was passed by Sarah S..  Other New Business included the posting of the Club Bylaws, the Committee Sign-Up Sheets, the Sign-Up sheets for dog breed talks, refreshment duty, Visual Demo contest, and the Dog Quiz Bowl. Upcoming Events were read. Members signed-up for projects and filled out the necessary forms. Announcements that were made included the QuickDraw contest, Allegany county 4-H camp, the Dog Order from Premire, Project Record Books, and the need for dog measurements for Easy-Walkers. Kaufman B. moved that the meeting adjourn. Caldwell B. seconded the motion. There was then a Dog Breed Talk by Kaufman and Caldwell B.. Kaufman spoke on the Newfoundland and Caldwell B. spoke on the Great Dane. The monthly Program was the Election of Officers. Sarah S. won President, Atticus S. won Vice President,  Caldwell B., won Secretary, Jenna P. won Reporter, Kaufman B. and Katie H. won Photographer, and Kendra H. won Treasurer. The new Officers were sworn in by Karen H.. Refreshments were provided by the H. family.

Kim Butler gives presentation at the 4-H Paws N Pals Organizational Meeting

The Organizational Meeting of the 4-H Paws N Pals Club was held on Thursday, April 23, 2009 at the Washington Street Library at 6:30 PM. Sixteen youth, four adult volunteers, and five parents for a total of 25 people were in attendance. Kim Butler gave an informational presentation about the new club. Karen Haines gave examples of her experiences as a 4-H’er and what she and Kim hoped to accomplish with the club. New member enrollment forms and a questionnaire were filled out by attendees. A calendar of events was handed out for the month of May. The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 PM. Refreshments were served.
