The June 2009 monthly meeting of the 4-H Paws N Pals Club was held Thursday, June 25th at 6:00 PM at the Washington Street Library. The club had 26 people in attendance. This was the first meeting run by the club’s newly elected officers. The 4-H’ers did a fantastic job running the meeting. Club members decided to add the building of the new Frostburg Dog Park as a community service project, to attend the upcoming Bedford Fall Foliage Festival, to attend the Responsible Dog Owner’s Day in Bedford in August, and to add three recreational pool parties to Quiz Bowl practice. Reports were given on Dog Obedience Class by Matt P., Heritage Days by Caldwell B., Biscuit Baking by Katie H., and Officer Training by Jenna P. New business included motions to form a 4-H Exchange Committee by Kaufman B and to form a Committee to research club uniforms by Matt P. The club members passed motions to pay sales tax to the Comptroller’s Office from Heritage Days, to purchase study books for Dog Quiz Bowl, to purchase materials for the fair booth and banner, to buy prizes for Dog Obedience Class, and to pay for the pool parties for Dog Quiz Bowl practice. An announcement was made of a new 4-H shooting sports club, the 4-H Firing Fanatics, that will have its first meeting on July 28th at the Washington Street Library at 6:00 PM. A Dog Breed talk was given by Katlyn C. on the Beagle and by Sarah T. on the Labrador Retriever.

The program for the evening was the club’s visual demonstration contest. Seven club members participated. Sarah S. won a red ribbon for “Clover Cards.” Matt P. won a white ribbon for “Toy Shaker.” Katie H. won a blue ribbon for “Bones for my Buddy.” Alicia J. won a blue ribbon for “Preparing a Beta Fish Bowl.” Caldwell B. won a red ribbon for “How to Build a Lego Train Coach”. Jenna P. won a blue ribbon for “Paper Origami.” Kaufman B. won a red ribbon for “Fabulous French Toast.” All club members are encouraged to participate in the upcoming county Visual Demonstration contest at the Allegany County Fair in July. The next monthly meeting of the 4-H Paws N Pals Club will be on Thursday, July 23rd at 6:00 PM at the Washington Street Library and will feature a Tellington Touch presentation by Jenn Merritt, CPDT, of Blue Dog Creature Coaching.

Jenna P gives her campaign speech
The first regular meeting of the 4-H Paws N Pals Club was held Thursday, May 28th at 6:30 PM at the Washington Street Library. The meeting was led by co-leaders Kim Butler and Karen Haines. The meeting was attended by 34 people. Reports were given on the Fidos for Freedom presentation by Caldwell B., Kayaks Tunes and Brews by Matt P., LaVale Vet tour by Lydia D., fund raiser sewing for Strut Your Mutt by Katie H., and the Upper Potomac Valley Kennel Club monthly meeting by Kaufman B. New business motions included dues for the club being set at $2 per meeting or $20 for the year if paid in full by the July meeting by Kendra H. The club by-laws were posted along with sign up sheets for various committees, the visual demonstration contest, dog quiz bowl, and refreshments that the 4-H’ers could sign up for. Members filled out registration paperwork and signed up for 4-H projects. Caldwell B. gave a Dog Breed talk on the Great Dane and Kaufman B. gave a Dog Breed talk on the Newfoundland. A sample visual demonstration was given by Karen Haines.

The club held its election of officers. Each member running for office gave a 2 minute campaign speech focusing on their strengths and why they wanted to be elected. The new officers include Sarah S. as president, Atticus S. as vice president, Caldwell B. as secretary, Kendra H. as treasurer, Jenna P. as reporter, and Katie H. and Kaufman B. as co-historians. The next monthly meeting of the 4-H Paws N Pals Club will be held on Thursday, June 25th at 6:00 PM at the Washington Street Library and will feature the club visual demonstration contest.

The organizational meeting of the 4-H Paws N Pals Club took place on Thursday, April 23, 2009. We had 25 adults and potential members come to hear about the new club. A 40 minute presentation was given with videos of all the exciting dog sports and activities the club hopes to participate in. Click here to access the presentation. 4-H enrollment forms were filled out and a club questionnaire was given to members to find out what activities they were most interested in. The first official club meeting will take place on Thursday, May 28, 2009 at the Washington Street Library at 6:30 PM. The club will be electing officers, choosing projects, and signing up for committees. The monthly program will include “How to do a Visual Demonstation” to get members ready for the club visual demonstration contest in June and the county contest in July. The club’s full calendar of events is available on the 4-H Paws N Pals web site. 4-H is open to any child between the ages of 8 and 18. Members do not need to own a dog to join.

4-H Paws N Pals Club
The organizational meeting of the 4-H Paws N Pals Club has been set for Thursday, April 23, 2009, at 6:30 PM. The club will be meeting in the conference room of the Washington Street Library in Cumberland, MD. An overview of what the club will be offering will be discussed. We will be signing up new members and parent volunteers. The club will need 4-H officers and will hold an election of officers at the first meeting, scheduled on Thursday, May 28, 2009. Monthly meetings will take place on the 4th Thursday of each month at the Washington Street Library at 6:30 PM. Lease A Dog programs will be offered for members who would like to use a dog for club activities.
